Make 3D animations with Claude and Blender
Connect Claude, Wallu and your own Blender: Claude builds lit 3D scenes with 2D characters, renders them on your computer and drops them into the Pro Editor. Free.
Make 3D animations with Claude and Blender
Claude can build real 3D scenes in your own Blender: rooms and landscapes lit like a film set, free 3D props and textures, flat 2D characters standing in the scene, and camera moves through it. It renders the shots on your computer and puts them straight into your Wallu media library, ready to cut in the Pro Editor. You describe the scene in plain words; Claude writes and runs the Blender side for you.
What it costs
Nothing extra. Blender is free and open source, the Wallu add-on is free, the renders run on your own computer, and the 3D assets Claude uses come from Poly Haven (free, CC0, commercial use allowed). The Blender connection works on every Wallu plan. Editing the finished video in the Pro Editor through Claude needs Studio Creator or higher; you can always edit it by hand.
What you need
- Claude with the Wallu connector: claude.ai, the Claude desktop app or Claude Code. See Connect Claude to Wallu, the next article in this section.
- Blender 4.2 or newer: free from blender.org.
- The Wallu add-on for Blender: one file, wallu_blender.py.
Option A: let Claude set it up for you
If you use Claude Code (or another Claude that can run commands on your computer) and it has the Wallu connector, paste this prompt. Claude installs Blender if you don't have it, installs and switches on the add-on, connects it to your Wallu account and checks that it works:
Set up Blender for Wallu on this computer so you can build 3D scenes
in it for my videos.
Step 1: find Blender 4.2 or newer on this computer. If there is none,
download the latest Blender LTS for this computer from
https://www.blender.org/download/ and unpack it into a folder with a
short path in my home directory.
Step 2: download the free Wallu add-on from
https://wallu.ai/api/v1/mcp/blender/addon
and save it as wallu_blender.py.
Step 3: write a small Python script and run it with Blender in the
background (blender -b --online-mode --python setup.py) to install
the add-on, switch it on and allow online access:
bpy.ops.preferences.addon_install(
filepath="the path of wallu_blender.py", overwrite=True)
bpy.ops.preferences.addon_enable(module="wallu_blender")
bpy.context.preferences.system.use_online_access = True
bpy.ops.wm.save_userpref()
Step 4: call the Wallu connector's blender_connect tool for a pairing
code, then pair with a second background run:
bpy.context.window_manager.wallu_code = "the code"
print(bpy.ops.wallu.connect())
It prints FINISHED when it worked. Do not disconnect afterwards:
Blender keeps the connection for next time.
Step 5: open Blender for me and check with blender_status that you
can see it.
Option B: set it up yourself (about 3 minutes)
- Step 1. Install Blender 4.2 or newer and open it once.
- Step 2. Download the add-on: wallu_blender.py.
- Step 3. In Blender go to Edit, Preferences, Add-ons, click the small arrow at the top right, choose Install from Disk..., pick
wallu_blender.pyand make sure it's ticked. - Step 4. Ask Claude: "connect my Blender". It answers with a one-time code (it works for 10 minutes).
- Step 5. In Blender's 3D view press N, open the Wallu tab, press Allow online access if it asks, type the code and press Connect.
That's it. From now on Blender connects by itself whenever you open it, and you can Pause Claude or Disconnect from the same Wallu tab at any time.
Your first scene
Keep Blender open and ask Claude for a scene and a shot. For example:
- "Build a medieval throne room with a cartoon king and two guards, warm sunlight through the windows, and render a 3 second push-in for a vertical video."
- "Make a cosy coffee shop at night with neon signs, and render a slow pan I can put behind my captions."
- "Stand my logo on a marble pedestal in a museum hall and orbit the camera around it."
Claude builds the scene in passes and looks through the cameras after each one:
- Block out: grey shapes for the room, the main objects and the cameras.
- Light: sunlight, lamps and atmosphere (light shafts, haze).
- Dress: textures, props and the characters.
Then it renders the shots on your computer. Each render lands in your Wallu media library, and Claude can place it in the Pro Editor, cut it to music and add text, sound and transitions.
2D characters in 3D sets
The popular 2.5D look (flat cartoon characters inside real 3D rooms) works out of the box. Give Claude your characters as transparent PNGs, or ask it to draw simple ones, and it stands them in the scene on flat cards with a soft contact shadow, so they sit in the room's light and perspective.
Tips
- Keep Blender open while Claude works. Your Blender stays usable: renders run in a second Blender in the background.
- Render time depends on your graphics card. Ask for short shots (2 to 5 seconds); a few seconds per frame is normal.
- One Blender window per computer is connected. A second window shows "Connected in another Blender window" with a Use this Blender button to move the connection to it.
- Save your scene in Blender (File, Save) if you want to keep it, or ask Claude to save it for you.
- While connected, Claude can run Python in that Blender: that's how it builds the scene. Disconnect when you're done if other people use the computer.
Troubleshooting
- Claude says no Blender is connected: open Blender and check the Wallu tab (press N in the 3D view). If it says online access is off, press Allow online access.
- The code doesn't work: a code works once, for 10 minutes. Ask Claude to "connect my Blender" again for a new one.
- "Disconnected by Wallu": the connection was removed (for example from another chat). Ask Claude for a new code.
- The add-on is out of date: Claude tells you when a newer add-on is out. Install the new file the same way; it replaces the old one.
Connect Claude to Wallu
Add the Wallu connector to Claude (claude.ai, the desktop or mobile app, or Claude Code) so Claude can edit your videos and drive your Blender.
Connect Claude to Wallu
The Wallu connector lets Claude work inside your Wallu account: it edits videos in the Pro Editor while you watch, builds 3D scenes in your own Blender, and prepares posts for your social accounts (it only publishes after you say yes).
In claude.ai, the desktop app or the mobile app
- Copy the connector address:
https://wallu.ai/api/v1/mcp - In Claude open Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector.
- Paste the address, press Add, then Connect and sign in to your Wallu account.
In Claude Code
Run this once in your terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to Wallu:
claude mcp add --transport http wallu https://wallu.ai/api/v1/mcp
What it includes
- Pro Editor: Claude edits the project open in your editor tab (cuts, text, music, sound effects, motion, transitions, captions and renders). Open the Pro Editor first.
- Social posts: Claude can prepare posts and fill the publish dialog; nothing goes out without your yes.
- Blender: 3D scenes in your own Blender, free on every plan. See the first article in this section.
The Pro Editor and posting tools need Studio Creator or higher. Blender is free on every plan.
Good to know
- Claude works on what's open: keep the Pro Editor tab (and Blender, for 3D) open while it works. You see every change live and can undo it.
- New tools appear in a new chat: Claude loads the tool list when a chat starts.
