Freshdesk Alternatives 2026: 7 Options and What They Cost

· Wallu Team · 11 min read · Comparison

Freshdesk costs $23 to $107 per agent month-to-month ($19 to $89 yearly), plus Freddy AI sessions. 7 alternatives, priced for 3, 5 and 10 agents.

Table of Contents

Short answer: Freshdesk costs $23, $66 or $107 per agent a month month-to-month ($19, $55 or $89 billed annually), and its Freddy AI Agent includes 500 sessions once per account, then charges $49 per 100. For the same kind of help desk for less, Zoho Desk runs from $9 to $50 per user month-to-month ($7 to $40 annually) and has a free plan for 3 users. Zendesk is the closest like-for-like suite but needs Suite Team ($69 per agent, $55 annually) for chat, Help Scout ($30 per user, $25 annually) suits email-first teams, and Intercom's Fin ($0.99 per outcome) is the pick if the AI agent matters most. If you mainly want AI answers on chat and social channels rather than tickets, Wallu charges per account, not per agent, from $4.99 a month ($3.99 billed yearly).

About the prices. Every figure was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 10 October 2026, in both billing cycles where both exist. "Our arithmetic" marks sums we calculated from those published rates.

What Freshdesk costs in 2026

Freshdesk charges per agent and publishes three plans:

PlanMonth-to-monthBilled annually
Growth$23 per agent$19 per agent
Pro$66 per agent$55 per agent
Enterprise$107 per agent$89 per agent
  • Freddy AI Agent (all plans): the first 500 sessions are included once per account, not every month. After that it is $49 per 100 sessions, $0.49 each by our arithmetic. An email session is a 72-hour window.
  • Freddy Copilot (Pro and Enterprise): $35 per agent month-to-month, $29 billed annually.
  • No free plan, and a 14-day trial of Enterprise.

The one-time allowance changes the sums. At 300 AI sessions a month, month one uses 300 of the 500, month two uses the last 200 and pays $49 for 100 more, and from month three the AI costs 3 × $49 = $147 a month.

A 5-agent Pro team with Copilot pays 5 × ($66 + $35) = $505 a month month-to-month, or 5 × ($55 + $29) = $420 billed annually. Add those sessions and, from month three, the month-to-month bill is $652 (all our arithmetic).

What Freshdesk does well, and why teams look elsewhere

Freshdesk is a mainstream per-agent ticketing desk, and on price it holds up well:

  • A low entry price. Growth at $23 month-to-month undercuts Zendesk's email-only Support Team ($25) and Help Scout Standard ($30); billed annually, its $19 matches Zendesk and beats Help Scout's $25.
  • AI on every plan, cheap per unit. Past the included sessions, $0.49 a session is less than Intercom's $0.99 per outcome, Help Scout's $0.75 per resolution or Zendesk's $1.50 to $2.00 per extra automated resolution, though the units differ.
  • A large ecosystem, with far more third-party integrations than a young product such as Wallu.

The reasons to look elsewhere are about how the bill is built:

  • It grows with every agent. Ten agents on Pro are $660 a month month-to-month, or $550 billed annually, before AI (our arithmetic).
  • The AI allowance runs out once, so steady AI use becomes a steady $49-per-100 charge.
  • Copilot is another per-agent charge: $35 month-to-month, $29 annually.
  • There is no free plan on the Freshdesk pricing page. Freshworks offers one on Freshchat, its chat product (up to 10 agents, no Freddy AI Agent).

Decide what you need first

Each reason for leaving points somewhere different.

  • A smaller per-agent bill. A lower seat price is the main fix: even Zoho Desk's top plan ($50 per user month-to-month, $40 annually) costs less than Freshdesk Pro ($66, or $55). Included light seats help too: 50 light agents on Zoho Desk Enterprise, 20 Lite seats on Intercom Advanced, 5 light users on Help Scout Plus.
  • A cheaper AI meter. Freddy's unit price is already low, so switching for AI cost alone may not save anything.
  • AI without a migration. Intercom sells Fin for use on another helpdesk at $0.99 per outcome, with no seats and a minimum monthly commitment. Check that it supports your setup.
  • AI answers on chat and social channels, not tickets. A different kind of product; see the last group below.

The alternatives, grouped by what you need

If you want another full ticketing help desk

Zoho Desk has the lowest per-user entry price here, as shown to a US visitor: Express $9 month-to-month or $7 annually (up to 5 users), Standard $20 or $14 (adds live chat and messaging apps), Professional $35 or $23 (adds Zia AI and telephony) and Enterprise $50 or $40.

AI Agents run from Express on your own AI key or Zoho's model, with up to 30 million free tokens a month and no published per-resolution price. The 15-day trial needs no card and drops to the free plan.

Zendesk is the nearest like-for-like move, but costs more once you need chat. Support Team ($25 per agent month-to-month, $19 annually) is email ticketing only; messaging, live chat, telephony and AI agents start on Suite Team at $69 or $55, and Suite Professional is $149 or $115.

Plans include 5 automated resolutions per agent a month (10 on Suite Professional), and extras cost $1.50 committed or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. See Zendesk vs Intercom and cheaper Zendesk alternatives.

If you want a free plan

Freshdesk's pricing page lists none. Zoho Desk Free covers 3 users (email ticketing only), Help Scout Free up to 5 users (one inbox, 100 contacts a month, no AI), HubSpot Free 2 users (ticketing and HubSpot-branded live chat), and Freshworks' own Freshchat Free up to 10 agents, for chat rather than ticketing and without the Freddy AI Agent. The AI agents start on paid plans: Zoho's on Express, HubSpot's Customer Agent on Professional.

If most of your support is email

Help Scout is an email-first shared inbox and does that well. Standard is $30 per user month-to-month or $25 annually (up to 25 users, 2 inboxes), Plus $54 or $45 (up to 50 users, 5 inboxes) and Pro $90 or $75 with a 10-user minimum, via sales.

AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution with a spend cap, after three free months of unlimited use. The trial is 15 days, no card. More in our Help Scout alternatives.

Front is a shared inbox priced per seat: Starter $35 month-to-month or $25 annually (up to 10 seats, one channel type), Professional $85 or $65 (omnichannel, up to 50 seats) and Enterprise $105, annual only. Its Autopilot AI agent is "starting at $0.05 /conversation" via sales. No free plan; 14-day trial, no card.

If your business already runs on HubSpot

HubSpot Service Hub is now sold within one combined sales, marketing and service plan set. Starter is $10 a seat month-to-month or $7 annually (a limited-time discount from $20, up to 10 paid users), but it has no Help Desk workspace and no Customer Agent. Both start on Professional, $100 a seat or $90 annually, plus a required onboarding fee whose amount is not shown; Enterprise is $175, annual only.

The Customer Agent costs $0.50 per messaging resolution (50 credits at $0.01), counted when a conversation is not handed to a human within 72 hours. No trial is mentioned on the pricing page.

If the AI agent matters most

Intercom. Intercom's list price for Essential is $39 per seat month-to-month ($29 billed annually); when we read the page, most visitors were being shown a test price of $29 ($19 annually). Advanced is $99 or $85, and Expert $139 or $132.

Fin costs $0.99 per outcome with no included allowance: at most one charge per conversation, and none if the customer asks for a human. It has spending limits and a 90-day money-back guarantee. No free plan; the 14-day trial includes Fin and needs no card. Details in Freshdesk vs Intercom.

If you mainly need AI answers on chat and social channels

Wallu is a different kind of tool: one AI agent answers 8 channels (website chat widget, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Discord, Slack and email) from one shared inbox, using your knowledge base, with tickets and email follow-up, human handover and business hours. It charges per account, with no per-seat charge, and one credit is one AI reply sent.

Mini is $4.99 a month month-to-month or $3.99 yearly (350 replies, about 110 conversations), Lite $9.99 or $7.99 (1,000), Starter $19 or $15 (2,500, plus Voice AI), Pro $49 or $39 (7,000; adds WooCommerce) and Enterprise $149 or $119 (25,000; adds white-label, full API and an SLA). A free account gets 10 AI replies a month; the 7-day Mini trial needs a card. See pricing, Assist and where Wallu is the wrong choice.

  • Annual billing lowers every row. Ten agents on Freshdesk Growth are $190 a month billed annually (10 × $19, or $2,280 a year), the same as Zendesk Support Team; Zoho Desk Standard is $140 and Help Scout Standard $250.
  • Wallu is not in the table because its price does not depend on headcount. The plan is set by AI replies, from $4.99 (350 a month; $3.99 yearly) to $149 (25,000; $119 yearly). At about 3.2 replies per conversation, Pro ($49, or $39 yearly) covers roughly 2,200 conversations a month (our arithmetic).

Then add AI

AI meters use different units, so they stay out of the table. Here is what 300 AI-handled conversations a month would add if the AI resolves each one and each counts once (our arithmetic; Freshdesk first, then alphabetical):

  • Freshdesk: 3 × $49 = $147, once the one-time 500 sessions are used.
  • Help Scout: 300 × $0.75 = $225, after the free three months.
  • HubSpot: 300 × $0.50 = $150, on Professional or Enterprise only.
  • Intercom: 300 × $0.99 = $297.
  • Wallu: no add-on; about 960 replies at 3.2 per conversation fits Lite ($9.99 month-to-month, $7.99 yearly).
  • Zendesk, 5 agents on Suite Team: 25 resolutions are included, so 275 × $2.00 = $550 pay-as-you-go, or 275 × $1.50 = $412.50 committed.

The units cut both ways: Intercom, Help Scout, HubSpot and Zendesk charge only for resolutions or outcomes, so a conversation the AI fails on adds nothing, while Freshdesk counts sessions and Wallu counts every AI reply sent, resolved or not.

Where Wallu is the wrong choice

The cases where we would point a Freshdesk team elsewhere:

  • You need a full ticketing help desk. Wallu has tickets, a shared inbox and human handover, but no SLA policy engine, no skills-based routing for large teams, no workforce management and no multi-brand help centre.
  • You run phone support. Wallu has Voice AI from Starter up, but no phone contact centre. Zendesk Suite Team and Zoho Desk Professional include telephony.
  • You depend on integrations. Wallu has no app marketplace and far fewer third-party integrations than Freshdesk, Zendesk, Intercom or HubSpot, and it is a young company. Check what it connects to first.
  • You want a free plan to run on. A free Wallu account gets 10 AI replies a month: enough to test, not to run support. Zoho Desk, Help Scout and HubSpot have free plans a small team can work in.
  • Your volume is high and steady. Credits are per AI reply, and the largest plan is 25,000 a month. At high, steady volume a flat-rate or unlimited plan elsewhere can work out cheaper.
  • You need an uptime SLA on a small plan. Wallu publishes none below Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to Freshdesk?

It depends on why you are leaving: Zoho Desk for a cheaper per-user help desk ($9 to $50 month-to-month, $7 to $40 annually); Zendesk for a like-for-like suite (chat from $69 per agent month-to-month, $55 annually); Help Scout for email-first teams ($30 per user month-to-month, $25 annually); Intercom for the AI agent ($0.99 per Fin outcome). For AI answers on chat and social channels only, Wallu, from $4.99 per account month-to-month ($3.99 yearly).

Is there a free alternative to Freshdesk?

Yes, for small teams: Zoho Desk is free for 3 users (email ticketing only), Help Scout for up to 5 (one inbox, 100 contacts a month, no AI) and HubSpot for 2. Freshworks' own Freshchat is free for up to 10 agents, but it is chat rather than ticketing and has no Freddy AI Agent. Freshdesk's own pricing page shows no free plan.

How much does Freshdesk cost per agent in 2026?

Growth is $23 per agent a month month-to-month or $19 billed annually, Pro $66 or $55, and Enterprise $107 or $89, as read on 10 October 2026. Freddy AI Agent sessions cost $49 per 100 after a one-time 500 per account, and Freddy Copilot is $35 per agent month-to-month ($29 annually) on Pro and Enterprise.

Are Freddy AI's 500 free sessions monthly?

No. The 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions are included once per account, not every month. After that, sessions cost $49 per 100, or $0.49 each by our arithmetic. An email session is a 72-hour window.

Is Zendesk cheaper than Freshdesk?

Not at entry level. Zendesk Support Team is $25 per agent month-to-month against Freshdesk Growth's $23, both are $19 billed annually, and Support Team is email ticketing only. Messaging and live chat start on Zendesk Suite Team at $69 per agent month-to-month ($55 annually).

Can I add an AI agent without leaving Freshdesk?

Yes. Freshdesk's own Freddy AI Agent is on every plan: 500 sessions once per account, then $49 per 100. Intercom also sells Fin for use on another helpdesk at $0.99 per outcome, with no seats and a minimum monthly commitment; confirm it supports Freshdesk first.
